Bordered by New York City and the Long Island Sound to the south, the Hudson River to the west, Putnam County (Hudson Valley Region) to the north, and Fairfield County (Connecticut) to the east, the region covers an area of 450 square miles and almost one million residents.  

An amalgam of volunteer and career providers, independent and fire service based organizations,  EMS operations in the Westchester Region are comprised of forty-three (43) certified ambulance services, two (2) ALS First Response agencies, and over thirty (30) BLS First Response agencies. 

The Regional EMS Council and its Program Agency, the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services, are responsible for overseeing and coordinating EMS operations as per New York State Public Health Law in the county of Westchester.

• NYSDOH, Bureau of EMS Policy Statements Released (6/16/2010)
  • NYSDOH Policy Statement 10-05 regarding DNR and Medical Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment (MOLST). For more information, click here.
  • NYSDOH Policy Statement 10-01 regarding Defibrillators and Epinephrine Requirements took effect on May 1, 2010. This policy established that all in-service ambulances be equipped with defibrillators and Epinephrine. Click here for more information.

• Annual EMS Award Winners Selected (6/1/2010)
  The Regional Council congratulates those individuals who have made a significant contribution to the EMS system in the Westchester Region. On May 19, 2010, awards were distributed to our winners during the annual EMS Award Ceremony and Reception. Visit the Annual EMS Awards page for a list of our award winners.

• Regional STEMI Program Advisory (2/10/2010)
  The Westchester REMAC has approved a process that allows patients presenting with specific signs and symptoms of Myocardial Infarction to be transported by paramedic services directly to specialty hospitals capable of providing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

• 2010 REMAC Schedule UPDATE (2/10/2010)
  
  The Westchester REMAC has elected to revise its meeting schedule. As a result, meetings will now occur on the third Monday of every other month.

• NY State Pre-hospital Patient Care Report FORMS ARE NOW AVAILABLE (2/3/2010)
  
  The Regional EMS Office has been advised that NY State Patient Care Reports are available again. If your agency is in need of PCR supplies, contact our office at 914-231-1616.

• WREMSCO CON EXPANSION/OMISSION POLICY STATEMENT (UNCONTESTED)  (12/22/2009)
  Below is memo from REMSCO Chair reminding agencies about the Transportation Committee policy on this matter.  A copy of the policy is provided as well.  This policy expires as of 6/25/2010.

• PUBLIC ACCESS DEFIBRILLATION (PAD) FORM UPDATE(11/16/2009)
  Updated Regional PAD Location Form: Effective immediately, all Notice of Intent paperwork must include a listing of the physical location of all AED equipment.

  Important information regarding Medical Orders for Life-sustaining Treatment (MOLST)

• Glucometers & NYS Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (CLEP) Registration (5/30/06)
  Important reminder to all Regional ALS Agencies:
  The law requires that any EMS service testing blood glucose, whether by electronic glucometer or chemstrip, be required to possess a Limited Laboratory Registration. In order to obtain the Registration, EMS agencies must complete and submit the following documents:
   
  • Limited Service Laboratory Registration (DOH-4081)
  • Disclosure of Ownership and Controlling Interest Statement (DOH-3486)
